Salem/Willamette Valley

Salem is situated in the heart of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, only about an hour south of the hustle and bustle of Portland. It has twice been selected as an All-American City by the National Civic League. The city is home to Willamette University, Corban University, and Chemeketa Community College. Tucked between the Cascade Mountain Range and the Oregon Coast in the beautiful Willamette Valley, there are many reasons to live here!

In addition to the Oregon State Capitol and adjacent Willson Park, Salem’s downtown contains several museums and some of the oldest buildings in Oregon, as well as shopping and restaurants. The Willamette River, one of a few rivers in the state that flows from south to north, winds through the Salem area forming the boundary between Marion and Polk counties. With mountains and the coast to the west, mountains and lakes to the east, an abundance of rivers surrounding it, Salem offers something for everyone.

Salem and the local surroundings have a multitude of wineries and vineyards that are open to the public, including Oregon’s oldest producing winery, Honeywood Winery. With a temperate climate and rich soils, the Willamette Valley is the perfect growing environment for Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay grapes. More than 13,000 acres of grapes call this region home. Utilizing the valley’s rich natural resources, the Willamette Valley is host to internationally acclaimed wineries where vintners take time to welcome guests while still producing award-winning wines.
